Respiratory season visitation policy
Primary Children's has implemented guidelines that restrict patient visitation during respiratory season.
These visitation guidelines consist of the following, for everyone's safety:
- No visitors under 14. No one under the age of 14 is allowed in the hospital unless they are a patient.
- No more than two adults at a time may accompany or visit a patient. This applies to inpatient rooms and patients here for outpatient clinic or emergency department visits.
- No sick visitors. If you have fever, cough, sore throat, fatigue, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea, please stay home.
Details of the respiratory season visitation guidelines.
Primary Children's encourages brief visits when the child's condition permits. Each nursing unit may have its own visiting policies and hours. In general, visits to patient rooms end at 9 p.m. All visitors must leave the hospital by 10 p.m. For more information, check with the child's nursing unit.
Please, no sick visitors
Patient safety is a primary concern. All visitors will be screened for contagious diseases such as flu or colds. Persons who are ill should not visit, or should check with the nurse to determine what precautions to take. No one should visit the hospital who has recently been exposed to:
- chicken pox
- measles
- mumps
- pertussis (whooping cough)
- tuberculosis
- rubella
Friends
Parents are the best monitors of which visitors are helpful to the child's recovery. Each unit has specific visiting policies, and you should check with your child's nurse before inviting friends and family to visit. If you have a large number of concerned friends or family, it may be helpful to arrange to update one person and have others contact them for information.
Gifts for Patients
Balloons
All latex balloons are prohibited in the building. All balloons sent to patients must be made of Mylar. Mylar balloons can be purchased in the hospital Gift Shop. Phone orders for balloons or other gifts can be made to the Gift Shop by calling (801) 662-6565. Latex balloons are the leading cause of choking deaths in children. In addition, many patients and staff are allergic to latex, and the incidence of latex sensitivity appears to be increasing.
Flowers
Flowers are not allowed at the bedside in the Pediatric Critical Care or Newborn Critical Care Units. Flowers are allowed in other units in the hospital.
