Visiting Guidelines

Join us in our efforts to care for your family member or friend through brief and pleasant visits. Please supervise small children closely, for their own safety and for the comfort of our patients.

Well visitors only, please. Protect your loved one by staying home if you are sick or have recently been exposed to a contagious illness such as chicken pox, measles, mumps, pertussis (whooping cough), tuberculosis, or rubella. This helps patients avoid infections that could jeopardize their recovery.

General Visiting Hours. Visitors are allowed at all hours (at the patient’s invitation).

Cafeteria

Located the lower level, the Snack Bar offers an American-style grill, a deli with sandwiches and soup, and salads. The Snack Bar is open Monday through Sunday at the following times:

  • Breakfast: 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
  • Lunch: 12:00 to 1:30 p.m.
  • Dinner: 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Cashier’s Service

Hours: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday

Patients and guests can pay their hospital bills at the cashier’s office, located at the Registrars Desk.

Lost & Found

If you’ve lost an item in the hospital, talk to a nurse, who will help you check the Lost & Found.

Religious Services

Sacrament for LDS Church members is provided on Sunday mornings by volunteers upon request. Pastoral care for any faith is available upon request.

Security

Your security while in the hospital is very important to us. If you have questions or concerns about security, please talk to a nurse. Nurses can answer your questions and help you get in touch with the on-duty security officer, if needed.

Staying Connected

Your room offers a telephone and television. The telephone and a television remote are by your bedside. To dial outside the hospital, first press “9.” You can make long distance calls using a calling card. If you need help with your phone, please ask your nurse or PCA. You are also welcome to use your cell phone in all areas of the hospital except for operating rooms or for patient rooms in critical care and emergency departments.

Services

Diabetes Clinic

One on one counseling is offered Tuesdays and Thursdays 9am to 5pm. Physician referrals are required appointments can be made by calling 435-462-4631. Healthy living through exercise, blood glucose monitoring, medication, and dietary changes is emphasized. Diabetes self management is part of living well with diabetes and reducing risks and complications associated with diabetes. Healthy individuals make healthy communities.

EEG Testing

(435) 462-4601 Hours: By appointment only

Electroencephalogram, or EEG, is a technique for studying the electrical current within the brain. Electrodes are attached to the scalp. Wires attach these electrodes to a machine which records the electrical impulses. The results are either printed out or displayed on a computer screen.

Testing times available by appointment only. Please note that a physician's order is required to schedule this procedure.

Emergency Care

Sanpete Valley Hospital’s Emergency Department provides 24-hour emergency treatment, 365 days a year, to patients of all ages. Our highly-trained team consists of physicians, physician assistants, nurses, technicians, and support staff.

As part of the Intermountain Healthcare system, Sanpete Valley Hospital’s emergency department is supported by the full range of Intermountain services and hospitals, including Life Flight, Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, and Primary Children's Medical Center.

Heart Services

All non-invasive diagnostic tests necessary to determine if there is a problem with a patient's heart are available at Sanpete Valley Hospital. When heart defects are detected, more complex diagnostic procedures may be necessary and specific treatments initiated.

  • EKGs: Electrical interpretation of heart rhythm
  • Echocardiography: Ultrasound specific to function of heart muscle, heart valves and blood flow through the heart
  • Holter monitoring: 24-hour heart rhythm monitoring, with coordinated evaluation
  • Event monitoring: Recording of specific cardiac events on a monitor that can be transmitted via telephone to the respiratory therapy department
  • Cardiac stress testing: Use of treadmill or medication to stress the heart

Intermountain Laboratory Services (including Sanpete Valley Hospital’s laboratory) is committed to providing the highest quality patient care. All laboratory departments are staffed with highly qualified medical technologists and clinicians with years of experience.

Board certified pathologists provide pathology services and laboratory consultations. Our labs use industry leading equipment to provide the best possible results with quick turnaround times on results.

Nutrition Counseling

Working toward Wellness and a Healthy Lifestyle

Creating a healthy lifestyle is one of the most important goals you can accomplish. Sanpete Valley Hospital is here to help you make healthy choices when it comes to diet. Individual nutrition counseling is offered in a one-on-one session with the dietitian.

Sessions with the registered dietitian include a complete assessment of your overall nutritional status, medical history, and dietary habits, followed by a personalized plan to help you achieve your nutritional goals and a healthy lifestyle. Nutritional guidance is offered for a wide variety of diagnoses and medical problems, as well as for nutrition through the life-cycle.

Nutrition Counseling Appointments

Community Services

Services other than nutrition counseling are also provided by the Clinical Nutrition Department.

Weight Management

Sanpete Valley Hospital offers the Weigh to Health nutrition program to individuals. This program is for adults who desire to lose weight and improve their health. Individual counseling sessions are offered by a Registered Dietician. There is a fee for this program, some insurances will reimburse. Occupational Therapy

A state licensed occupational therapist provides occupational therapy services to patients at Sanpete Valley Hospital, when ordered by a physician.

Occupational therapy addresses problems that affect a patient's ability to perform everyday activities. Patients receive personal attention and can count on caring and genuine concern for their well-being from the occupational therapist.

The occupational therapist evaluates a patient's ability to do a number of activities, which may include:

  • Dress, bathe, brush teeth, and comb hair
  • Eat and swallow a variety of foods
  • Use hands in a coordinated way
  • Use body in a coordinated way
  • Think, pay attention, listen
  • See, and process the information they see
  • Organize information received through the five senses

Radiology Imaging Services

Sanpete Valley Hospital’s Imaging Services combines personal care and attention with highly technical equipment. The hospital is accredited by the American College of Radiology. To receive ACR-accreditation, Sanpete Valley Hospital voluntarily went through a rigorous review process to assure that you are receiving the best treatment our radiology team can provide.

Computed Tomography (CT) - Computed Tomography (CT) Scanning is an imaging procedure that allows views of the body to be examined and evaluated for vital information. The CT scanner is located in the imaging services department.

MRI and Ultrasound - Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and ultrasound are two methods of taking dynamic visual images inside the body without the use of radiation used in x-ray and CT scans. MRI uses powerful magnets and radio waves and ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images.

Respiratory Therapy

Respiratory Care offers the following outpatient services (each requires a physician's order):

PFT: Pulmonary Function Test, a test designed to measure how well the lungs are working. Pulmonary function tests (PFT's) gauge how the lungs are carrying out their tasks of expanding and contracting (when a person inhales and exhales) and of exchanging oxygen and carbon dioxide efficiently between the air (or other gases) within the lungs and the blood. Testing times available by appointment.

Overnight Oximetry: A test that monitors the oxygen saturation of the blood through the use of a pulse oximeter over the course of the night. The data is downloaded by a respiratory therapist and interpreted by a physician. This is a very strong clinical indicator of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Testing times available by appointment.

Respiratory Outpatient Clinic

ROC Samples: Respiratory Syncytial Virus, or RSV, is caused by a virus. It blocks the flow of air through the lungs and makes it hard for your baby to breathe. After a physician's order is obtained, a sample is taken and sent to the on campus lab for culturing.

Suctioning: Air ways will be cleared of secretions, if indicated.

Bronchodilators: Medications are given to help the patient breathe easier. The use of Bronchodilators may decrease the wheezing of patients.

Sleep Disorders Lab

The Sleep Disorders Center offers high tech equipment that provides the means for effective diagnosis and treatment for sleep disorders such as snoring, excessive daytime sleepiness and abnormal sleep behaviors.

Most of us have trouble sleeping from time to time, but those with chronic sleep disorders are at risk for serious complications, including high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, automobile and other types of accidents, trouble at work, and strained relationships.

One common misconception is that all sleep disorders can be traced to obstructive sleep apnea. There are a number of different conditions that can cause chronic sleep disturbance, including things like restless leg syndrome, narcolepsy, and insomnia. The Sleep Disorders Lab is equipped to diagnose and treat all types of sleep disorders.

Prior to coming to the Sleep Disorders Center at Sanpete Valley Hospital, please complete the following forms and bring them with you to your appointment:

  • Epworth Sleepiness Scale: Please complete the questions on this form to help the sleep lab staff make a more complete assessment 
  • Observers/Bed Partners Survey: If applicable, this form is to be completed by someone who regularly observers you sleep

Women & Newborn Services

Each mother has unique needs for her birth experience. Our staff is ready to make the day everything you've imagined it could be.

As a woman moves through life, she goes through many healthcare changes. At Sanpete Valley Hospital, we offer care for every stage. Our physicians, nurses and other caregivers are experts in helping to meet women's needs.

Children's healthcare needs change over time as well. We have both the technology and skills necessary to provide excellent care for newborns. We are able to provide care and stabilization for pre-term infants, sick newborns and injured or ill children and teens. Staff members strive to provide care to help heal young patients enough to allow them to go home with their families.

Birthing Center

Our labor, delivery, recovery, postpartum suites are the only birthing rooms of this design in any local area hospital. Each of the private suites allows the mother to remain in the same room for labor, delivery, recovery. The remainder of her maternity stay will be in an adjacent private room.

Highly-trained staff and the latest equipment are available to provide care for your baby and your peace of mind. Whether you're starting a family or adding on to one, we understand how personal having a baby is for both you and your partner.

Keeping the mother and her baby together immediately after delivery, and as much as the mother desires during her stay, is one of our highest priorities. The large suites also allow for some family members to participate in the birth process to whatever degree the mother feels comfortable.

We also provide Hill Rom birthing beds, jacuzzi tubs, and a sleep area for the labor coach. The rooms are provide for relaxation with a dimmer switch for the lights, music, and various child birth aids, such as a birthing ball, bean bag chairs, and rocking chairs.

Immediate breast feeding is encouraged if the mother is interested. Trained staff members teach and assist when needed.

Options are available for anesthesia or for natural childbirth.

Mammography Services

Mammography services are available to women Monday - Friday at Sanpete Valley Hospital. Mammography films are read each weekday by our staff radiologist, Dr. Brian Jones. Sanpete Valley Hospital's mammography program is accredited by the American College of Radiology.

Prenatal Education

Expecting parents, moms-to-be, or single mothers and their support partners are invited to attend prenatal classes taught quarterly at Sanpete Valley Hospital. Participants will learn proper nutrition, proper exercise, help for discomforts, warning signs, pre-term labor, stages of labor, comfort measures for labor, postpartum care and infant care.

Ultrasound Machine

Sanpete Valley Hospital offers state-of-the-art technology to patients in need of ultrasound services. This machine allows physicians to better determine the status of an unborn child, view tumors and growths, and diagnose a wide variety of illnesses.

Sanpete Valley Healthcare Foundation

The Sanpete Valley Health Care Foundation seeks to improve patient care at Sanpete Valley Hospital. The focus of the Foundation is on raising funds for equipment, state-of-the-art devices to help patients and save lives. Since being formed, the foundation has contributed more than $100,000 towards the purchase of medical equipment.

UPCOMING EVENT Skyline @10K Race/Walk
August 3, 2013 The unique 10,000 kilometer race, half marathon and 5k walk, is held in August at 10,000 feet elevation on the beautiful Skyline Drive. Runners and walkers are invited to the ninth annual Skyline @10K, which covers 10,000 meters and advances up to 10,000 feet above sea level. The high-altitude half marathon, 10K and 5k mountain walk will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, August 4, on Highway 31 at the top of Fairview Canyon in Sanpete County in central Utah. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners.

Foundation Funds in Action

Programs and Initiatives

The Sanpete Valley Health Care Foundation focuses on raising funds for the medical equipment needs of Sanpete Valley Hospital. Learn more about the important projects that have been made possible through donations to the Sanpete Valley Health Care Foundation.

Ultrasound Machine

The Foundation donated $18,000 towards the purchase of a new ultrasound machine for Sanpete Valley Hospital. State-of-the-art technology awaits patients in need of ultrasound services. The new machine, purchased in 2003, allows physicians to better determine the status of an unborn child, view tumors and growths, and diagnose a wide variety of illnesses. In the words of Dr. Gary Cole, "An ultrasound machine, such as this, allows physicians to provide top quality medicine."

Anesthesia Monitor

During 2000, the Foundation donated $17,000 towards the purchase of a new anesthesia monitor. Surgical patients are now monitored on the latest technology. The patient's vital signs are constantly monitored, giving the anesthetist valuable information regarding the patient's condition.

Mammography Machine

The Foundation donated $15,000 towards the purchase of a new mammography machine in 1999. This valuable screening device is used to detect breast lumps, tumors, and cancer. Thanks to the Foundation, state-of-the-art mammography services are now available to women on a regular basis at Sanpete Valley Hospital.

Heater Probe for EGD

The Foundation donated $3,000 towards the purchase of a new heater probe to be used during surgical EGD procedures at Sanpete Valley Hospital. The heater probe allows the surgeon to control any bleeding that may occur during the procedure.

Dermatome

The Foundation donated $3,000 towards the purchase of a dermatome. This medical device allows the surgeon to perform skin grafts in a safe, efficient manner. More efficient surgical procedures are able to be performed at Sanpete Valley Hospital due to the addition of this piece of medical equipment.

Fetal Heart Monitor

The Foundation donated over $3,000 towards the purchase of a new fetal heart monitor to be used at Sanpete Valley Hospital. This device is used to monitor the unborn baby's heart rate.

Foundation Board

The Sanpete Valley Health Care Foundation is made up of volunteers from surrounding communities. These conscientious volunteers are charged with planning, directing, and carrying out fund raising activities for the Foundation. Board members also hold the responsibility of directing how the funds raised will best be utilized.

Volunteer Services

Each year, more than 100 men, women and teens provide countless hours of volunteer service at Sanpete Valley Hospital. From answering telephones and filing papers, to greeting visitors, volunteers provide a valuable service. Many volunteers are needed to assist with the annual Sanpete Valley Hospital Health Fair. Sanpete Valley Hospital is a critical access hospital located in Mount Pleasant, Utah, the hub of Sanpete County. A skilled medical staff - general surgeon, radiologist and 10 family practice physicians - are dedicated to serving the medical needs of the community.

As a not-for-profit hospital, Sanpete Valley Hospital has no stockholders or investors. Our focus is on serving our community.

The governing board of Sanpete Valley Hospital is made up of volunteers representing their local communities. These unpaid trustees are charged with making decisions that will be in the best interest of the patients, Sanpete Valley Hospital and Intermountain Healthcare.

Patients and guests are encouraged to park on either the north or northwest side of the hospital. Parking for hospital visitors is marked by yellow lines in all appropriate parking lots surrounding the hospital.

Handicap parking is available in both parking lots.
