Change your body inside & out for free
Heart disease is the number one killer of women and men in the United States and many of the risk factors can be improved by eating right and getting enough exercise. The 100-Day Heart Challenge is a “reality TV”-type experience that gives participants the education and training necessary to make lifestyle changes that will improve their heart health.
The 2013 100-Day Heart Challenge officially begins February 5 and goes until May 15.
Any Utah County woman age 30 and above who is not an employee of Intermountain Healthcare* and who wants to improve her heart health may apply. Ten women are selected and those 10 women pick a partner. Partners can be male or female age 30 or above.
Each participant goes through testing to assess her or his current heart health including:
-
-
Waist circumference
-
-
LDLs
-
HDLs
-
Triglycerides
-
-
Blood glucose
-
Percent body fat
Those same items are tested at the end of 100 days in order to determine the winner of the Challenge. Much of the work in the Challenge is done at home, but the participants attend a weekly nutrition class at Utah Valley Regional and work out in the hospital’s Wellness Center where trainers have tailored an individual exercise program for each participant.
Deadline to submit an application is midnight on Monday, Jan. 28, 2013.
*Employees of Intermountain Healthcare's Urban South Region may apply to participate in a separate Employee 100-Day Heart Challenge which begins in the summer of 2013.
