Liz Joy, MD, MPH, has assumed a new role as Medical Director for Community Health within the Community Benefit Department. In this role, Dr. Joy will provide medical guidance to Intermountain’s community health initiatives, recognizing the importance of community-based interventions in helping people achieve and maintain health.

Dr. Joy will work to ensure that our community health initiatives are aligned with our Clinical Programs in delivering highest-quality health (not just healthcare) to all members of our community. Dr. Joy will also help ensure that our collaborative efforts with community partners are evidence-based to improve population health. She will provide connection and coordination of these activities with the Medical Directors Council and other system physician leaders. Dr. Joy will continue to have responsibilities in evaluation and outcomes research for community health improvement along with wellness and health promotion.

“I’m incredibly excited to take on this new role, and help us achieve our mission of helping people live the healthiest lives possible. To be successful, we need to extend our efforts and our influence to where people live, learn, work play and pray. Likewise, we need to prove that this kind of shift and refocusing of limited healthcare resources works for patients, providers and payers. Robust evaluation of our community health improvement strategies will be key to that effort.”

Dr. Joy’s current research efforts are focused on physical activity assessment and promotion, and diabetes prevention. To find out more about Intermountain’s research and how we’re helping people live the healthiest lives possible, visit www.intermountainresearch.org
