Supporting Your Child In Difficult Times

  1. Give your child extra attention right now.  Be aware of what they may be hearing from their friends at school and be available to them when they have questions or want to share feelings.
  2. When your child asks questions about what happened in Connecticut, answer with simple and honest information.  There is much of the story that we do not understand, and it is okay to tell your child that we may never know exactly why this happened.
  3. Provide love and support to your child during daily transitional times.    These include when they wake up, leave and come home from school and are getting ready for bed.  Offering these regular doses of nurturing will help them be comforted and move them towards restoring balance in their lives.
