Intermountain L&D units have been busy making great strides in research.

Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, Intermountain Medical Center, LDS Hospital, and McKay-Dee Hospital were major players in enrolling patients for the "Effects of Aspirin in Gestation and Reproduction (EAGeR)" trial.

In fact, the study leaders ended up shutting down other centers across the country for failure to enroll, and added enrollment quotas to Intermountain in order to accomplish their goals. The University of Utah was the prime participant in this study, with Intermountain sub-contracted through the University. Kudos to our team for doing such a great job in helping get the study subjects enrolled. Thanks to their above-and-beyond work, the study was a success.

We have also just completed the STAN study. This study turned out to be the second largest women’s clinical trial ever performed! Intermountain was, once again, the major contributor to the study. As a thank you, we took “STAN” cakes around to all of the L&Ds involved (see the photo above). The study results will be published at the end of this year, and presentation will be made at the Society for Maternal-Fetal medicine next February. There is an ongoing discussion about whether to continue using the STAN equipment in our facilities; we'll keep you updated on the outcome.
