The cardiac genetics program at Intermountain Children's Health brings new genetic knowledge to your child's care. To help families and children who are diagnosed with (or might develop) hereditary heart conditions, we use genetic information and partner with you to create a personalized care and screening plan. Our team is made up of pediatric cardiologists, a clinical geneticist, and genetic counselors.

An initial evaluation may include:

  • An in-depth family history
  • Medical history and physical examination by a medical geneticist
  • Recommendations for screening and management for both your child and at-risk family members based on the genetic risk assessment
  • Identification of available, appropriate genetic testing, including a discussion of benefits and limitations of the genetic test to promote individualized and informed decision-making
  • Post-test counseling, including discussion of the genetic test results and their implications for ongoing medical management
  • Referrals to local, regional, and national support groups and resources
