Single Ventricle Survivorship Program

Complete cardiac care for your child's lifelong health.

If your child was born with a single ventricle heart defect, as they grow, there can sometimes be other non-heart related health problems and complications. Our program works with you, your child, and family to help track, monitor, and improve their overall quality of life and health.

By partnering with you and your child’s cardiologist, we will help coordinate care and testing to identify early warning signs of complications and health issues. Utilizing this team approach to care, specialists from cardiology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, pulmonology, and among others—all collaborate to provide the best care for you child.

Visits to the clinic are about every three to five years starting at age five, in addition to their regular appointments. Updates are shared with your child’s cardiologist and primary care physician.

Our holistic and coordinated approach to care, ensures the best possible outcomes for your child as they navigate their health journey.

What to expect

Based on your child's condition and age, a variety of tests may be performed to evaluate the health of their heart, liver, muscle, bones, blood, and lungs. Our clinic will work with your health insurance provider to try and obtain approval for all tests ordered. If your child's primary cardiologist or other health care provider has already performed any of these tests, the clinic may not repeat them.

Some tests may include:

  • Bone
  • Heart
  • Liver
  • Lungs
  • Blood clotting
  • Kidney function
