Contact us

The Outpatient Therapy program provides individualized therapeutic services to children and adolescents ages two to 18 years, along with their families. Our therapists are highly trained in various modalities including play therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT). Services are provided in the office, or through telehealth (when appropriate) to meet the needs of busy families. We will work with parents and the young person to set goals, identify strategies and set realistic timelines. Mount Saint Vincent believes in the importance of partnering with both child and parents to ensure the best outcomes.

PCIT

Our Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) program is an evidence-based behavioral intervention training for children and their parents, foster parents, and caregivers. The program focuses on decreasing challenging child behavior problems, increasing child social skills and cooperation, and improving the parent-child attachment relationship. Caregivers and therapists work together to manage challenging child behaviors, promoting healthy family functioning.

PCIT teaches parents traditional play-therapy skills as social reinforcers of positive child behavior and traditional behavior management skills to decrease negative child behavior. Parents are taught and practice these skills with their children in a playroom while being coached live by a therapist. Coaching provides parents with immediate feedback on their new skills, enabling them to apply skills correctly and master them rapidly.

PCIT is time-unlimited; families remain in treatment until parents have mastered skills and rate their child's behavior within normal limits on a standardized measure of child behavior. Therefore, treatment length varies. It averages about 14 weeks with hour-long weekly sessions.
