The Scottish Rite Foundation

A foundation helping kids with speech-language and learning therapy

The Scottish Rite Foundation, a philanthropy of Scottish Rite Freemasonry in Colorado, was established in 1953 to help families pay for speech-language and learning therapy at Foundation approved programs. Thousands of children and their families have received this help.

The Scottish Rite Appraisal Committee at St. Mary’s Life Center carefully reviews the financial information that you provide within your application to determine if you qualify for assistance.

For Decades

The Scottish Rite Foundation of Colorado has embodied a giving spirit that helps St. Mary's Medical Center provide the best care to children with speech, language and learning disorders.

St. Mary's Regional Hospital is proud to partner with Scottish Rite as a RiteCare facility. The Masons provide eligible children the financial assistance they need to receive therapy and instruction through their Scottish Rite Foundation scholarship program.

A partnership begun in 1986, the Scottish Rite Foundation has provided more than $3.2 million in financial assistance for speech therapy and related services. This has enabled thousands of children in Grand Junction and the surrounding communities to receive services.

Frequently asked questions

Learn more about the Scottish Rite Foundation

  • Children between the ages of birth to 8 years are eligible to receive Scottish Rite assistance year round. Children older than 8 years are eligible only during the summer months when they are not in school. (This can be May thru August depending upon the school calendar for that child).
  • Funding is only for speech and language therapy services, it does not pay for evaluations.
  • Any family can apply for funding. The program assists families with or without private insurance. Applications are reviewed by a committee following submission to determine if they will receive support.

  • Applications are reviewed by a review committee of Scottish Rite Members
  • Based on the family income, and individual family circumstances a family co pay is assigned.

  • Primary insurance is the family's private insurance (e.g. Cigna, BC/BS, CINC). This is always billed first, once they have paid or denied, the balance is transferred to Scottish Rite responsibility, minus the family agreed upon copay.
  • Families without private insurance, Scottish Rite becomes the insurer and all the charges are billed to them minus the family copay if they are accepted into the program.
  • Children with Medicaid can apply for Scottish Rite if the family is concerned. Medicaid will for some reason deny (income too high for a month), or if they think they will be ineligible for Medicaid in the near future. If Medicaid does deny for a valid reason, then the debt would fall to the Scottish Rite program. It is only if Medicaid denies, not a supplement for Medicaid reimbursement.
  • All applications are reviewed independent of their primary insurance and determination of Scottish Rite benefit is not dependent upon the insurance plan. The actual reimbursement from Scottish Rite is determined following exhaustion of the benefit from the primary insurance or their denial of coverage.
