Botox is the No. 1 minimally invasive cosmetic procedure in the U.S. for men and women across all age groups. At Intermountain Southern Utah Plastic, our qualified providers are skilled at expert injections that smooth wrinkles.

WHAT IS BOTOX? Botox is the abbreviated word for the cosmetic form of botulinum toxin. It is a popular injectable that temporarily reduces or eliminates facial fine lines and wrinkles. Injections of botulinum toxin blocks the nerve signals to the muscle in which it was injected. Without a signal, the muscle is not able to contract. The end result is diminished unwanted facial wrinkles. There are multiple types of FDA-approved botulinum toxin type A injections used at Intermountain Southern Utah Plastic Surgery, which include: Botox®, Dysport®, Xeomin® and Jeuveau®.

The most common areas botox treats are:

  • Smooth crow's feet, forehead furrows, frown lines, lip lines and bunny lines
  • Diminish neck bands
  • Improve the appearance of skin dimpling of the chin
  • Lift the corners of the mouth
  • Soften a square jawline
  • Correct a gummy smile

HOW IS BOTOX DONE? A thin needle is inserted into the skin or muscles. The number of units needed depends on the patient’s needs. Botox should only be given in a board-certified doctor’s office by a trained provider.

Results from Botox are temporary and will last 3-4 months. A patient must regularly receive Botox injections to achieve results.

WHAT BOTOX CAN’T DO? Botox is not a solution for deep-set wrinkles. If the wrinkle crease remains even after the facial muscles are at rest, fillers are a better solution.
