"There are only four kinds of people: Those who have been caregivers
Those who are currently caregivers;
Those who will be caregivers;
Those who will need caregivers."
- First Lady Roslyn Carter
There are 27.6 million family caregivers in the United States. More than 40 percent of these caregivers are also caring for children under age 18. Almost 2/3 of these caregivers are employed on a full- or part-time basis. Caregivers spend an average of 18 hours per week caring for the person. The average length of caregiving for older adults is 18-20 years and for dependent children, it's 17 years.
Caregiving requires new information and skills:
Using Intermountain's EAP caregiver services and resources will help you feel less stressed and more confident as you perform this challenging responsibility.
If you happen to know any caregivers, pass this information along. They will thank you!
