Given the complex nature of gender-affirming care, leading organizations like the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) recommend interdisciplinary care teams are formed to treat transgender and gender diverse people in a way that considers all their needs. Our providers come together once a month to ensure medical best practices are followed.

Intermountain Health works with providers who offer a variety of gender-affirming care services in Utah including hormone treatments and surgery for adults.

Utah law prohibits hormone therapy and puberty blockers as treatment for gender dysphoria for anyone under 18 who did not have a documented gender dysphoria diagnosis before January 28, 2023.

Additional services

Additional services for Utah's LGBTQ+ population.

We offer pelvic physical therapy which may be prescribed for transgender patients. This can be helpful if you want to become more aware of the pelvic area. Hand therapy for skin-graft to the arm following Phalloplasty may also be recommended to prevent scarring and tightness. Examples of pelvic floor physical therapy may include:

  • How to tighten and relax the pelvic floor
  • How to improve flexibility in the hips and pelvic floor and for posture work
  • Increasing awareness of the pelvic floor through Biofeedback and breath work to help reduce tension and pain
  • Reducing pelvic floor tension through manual therapy, dilator use and modalities

Intermountain Health offers laser hair removal. We can also help you with laser hair removal to treat facial hair, bikini line areas, and other body hair-bearing skin areas that cause significant distress for gender-diverse individuals.

Voice services may be helpful if you want to work on pitch (higher, lower or flexible), resonance, articulation, breath support, body language, and/or social communication. Our goal is to help you have a voice that matches your gender expression, as well as increase your confidence while talking to other people. Intermountain currently does not have a voice specialist; however our care teams will offer referral to outside providers.
