What is ACL Bridge?

The goal is to provide a safe and challenging program resulting in the athlete’s return to full activity.

When an athlete suffers an injury that requires the help of physical therapy or surgery before returning to action, the impact is far reaching. With most athletes there is a gap, physically and psychologically, that one must bridge to feel and perform at their highest level in both sports and recreational activities.

The Intermountain Sports Performance ACL Bridge program addresses these challenges and will benefit individuals of all ages and abilities to help them regain functional independence.

The program was developed by a team of exercise physiologists by pairing the latest in ACL rehabilitation techniques with Intermountain Sports Performance’s state of the art technology and advanced performance training experience and methods.

The goal is to provide a consistent, protocol driven progression with the result being the athlete’s return to full activity.

Each session is personalized to the individual’s abilities and consists of four components.

Super Treadmill Incline Running & Backpedal

Forward incline running with improved conditioning, speed and flexibility. It will also aid the athlete in learning proper biomechanics. The motor control and strength enhancement of backward incline running trains the muscles and reformats the nervous system to avoid adopting compensation strategies to protect the once injured joint.

Agility & Multi-Directional Drills

These drills are designed to improve body awareness, mechanics, and enhance the neuromuscular pathways for improving sports or work specific performance. They also train the athlete to trust the musculoskeletal development that has taken place through the course of surgery, physical therapy, and the Intermountain Sports Performance ACL Bridge program.

Plyometric Training

The plyometric training progression within the ACL Bridge program will enhance kinesthetic awareness, improve dynamic stability, and stimulate a neurological training response that will result in quicker reaction times, enhanced power production, and reduce the risk of future injury.

Resistance Training

The ACL Bridge program is accompanied by a personalized strength regime that will target the complex muscles of the hip girdle, lower body, and abdominals. There is also an emphasis on appropriate hamstring to quadriceps strength and power output ratios. This training will be conducted using our unique Pro Multi-Hip and Plyo-Press machines.
