Intermountain Health supports nonprofit programs that strengthen K–12 educational outcomes by improving access to quality education, with a current emphasis on advancing reading literacy from early childhood through high school. Eligible programs should demonstrate innovation—either as early-stage pilots within their first three years or as proven, high-impact models being introduced into new regions where the approach is considered novel. Strong applications include collaboration and established relationships with educators and local schools.

Priority is given to innovative approaches that strengthen reading outcomes and expand access to high-quality literacy experiences for all students. Particular emphasis is placed on efforts that engage families and communities, remove barriers to learning, and equip students with the skills and confidence to thrive in school and beyond. Competitive proposals will demonstrate how they:

• Apply or adapt evidence-based literacy practices in new or community specific ways
• Support early and upstream intervention, particularly through family, school, and community partnerships
• Address early literacy gaps by expanding access to effective reading supports for students most at risk of not meeting grade‑level benchmarks
• Generate measurable outcomes and insights that can inform broader scale or systems change

While aligned with statewide literacy efforts, funded programs should extend beyond traditional approaches by testing new strategies, strengthening cross-sector collaboration, and contributing to long‑term improvements in literacy outcomes. Programs that are selected for funding will be expected to submit impact reports that measure student literacy growth or gains and percentage of students meeting or exceeding grade-level reading standards.

Grant funding should be considered a one-time investment intended to launch or establish a program with a clearly defined plan for long-term sustainability, rather than a source of ongoing financial support.
