Partnering to advance healthcare discovery

Intermountain is the largest health system in the Intermountain West, consisting of 34 hospitals and over 400 clinics. We lead innovative research and partner with other organizations to advance discoveries that improve care delivery and health outcomes. Our integrated health system, robust data assets, and research expertise support collaboration across clinical, translational, and population health research.

Our research team employs a seamless single-intake process to streamline the study start-up process for clinical trials. This optimization makes studies available to patients sooner, increasing patient access to therapeutic trials and research that will establish the care of the future. In addition, we offer:

  • An accelerated 90-day study start-up model, dedicated research support, and a central Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) to streamline approvals and reduce variability in research processes.
  • An integrated health system that unites researchers and promotes meaningful projects across Intermountain Health.
  • A hub-and-spoke research model designed for safety and efficacy that concentrates complex clinical trials at central hubs while still offering them system-wide under single-agreement contracting.
  • A growing pool of qualified principal investigators across disease states that are committed to transforming clinical care through research.

Moving innovative research forward

Our research capabilities, tools, and resources are designed to help investigators move efficiently from concept to discovery, including:

  • An active Phase 1 Clinical Trials program with dedicated research staff that are experienced in first-in-human clinical trials and early-stage research. 
  • Specialized clinical research teams conducting research across a wide range of disciplines, including Cardiovascular, Emergency Medicine, Implementation Science, Infectious Diseases, Laboratory Medicine, Neuroscience, Oncology, Pediatrics, Pulmonary and Critical Care, Rehabilitation and Orthopedics, Transplant and Hepatology, Trauma, Urgent Care, and Women and Newborn.
  • The Intermountain Health Biorepository, a best-in-class biobank storing biospecimens linked to decades of clinical outcomes data for research that contributes to a wider understanding of disease.
