National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month: Simple Steps to a Solution

September is National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month

Childhood obesity puts 1/3 of America’s children at risk for several serious health conditions:

    • Increased risks of high cholesterol, high blood pressure and heart disease.
    • Increased risks of insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes and impaired glucose tolerance.
    • Increased risk of breathing difficulties, including asthma and sleep apnea.
    • Increased risks of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), liver disease and gallstones.

The good news is that childhood obesity is completely preventable. We can all be a part of the solution by taking simple steps to encourage our children to lead the healthiest lives possible.
