    • The ingredients felt to provide benefit are, EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate), an antioxidant associated with fat burning, and, caffeine.
    • There are safety concerns with these components.  Caffeine is a stimulant that can make the heart beat faster, cause abnormal rhythms, and cause the kidneys to expel more water leading to dehydration.    It can become addicting.  EGCG in a concentrated form such as an extract, can cause liver damage from over consumption.
    • It is possible to consume more caffeine than one realizes, because it is added to so many products such as sports drinks.
    • The caffeine content of teas can vary widely depending upon brew method.  Recommendations on amount to consume for various health concerns, vary from one to 8 cups daily.  This can provide anywhere from 24 to more than 320 milligrams caffeine daily.
    • Rather than the uncertainty of how much caffeine and EGCG is in green tea or its extract, consider consuming a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables, to obtain antioxidants. Metabolism can be increased by eating throughout the day with smaller portions, and, exercising.
