About our program

The Intermountain Utah Valley Sports Medicine Fellowship provides the training needed to thrive as a physician and leader in sports medicine. Our fellows learn as they work side-by-side with nationally recognized, expert faculty, receiving the latest instruction in the diagnosis and management of sports-related injuries and medical conditions, ultrasound-guided procedures, regenerative medicine, concussion management and leadership. Fellows also benefit from strong team physician experiences across three Division I Universities and regular coverage at the Park City Mountain Resort Ski Clinic.

An unrivaled experience awaits, including:

  • Ski trauma rotation on-mountain in Park City, Utah. 
  • Extensive team physician and training room coverage spanning three Division I Universities (Brigham Young University, Utah Valley University and Utah State University) as well as other athletic team and event coverage ranging from high school to professional.
  • Strong clinical and academic experience, including high-volume sports medicine and concussion clinics, extensive MSK Ultrasound training, national conferences, a diverse sports medicine faculty team dedicated to fellow success and an excellent selection of visiting instructors. 
  • Unique longitudinal leadership training and mentorship experience guided by Marriott School of Business faculty.
  • Individualized curriculum, with one-quarter of rotational time customized to fellow goals and interests. 
  • Applicants considered from a variety of primary specialties.
  • An unrivaled adventure including fellowship experiences spanning from the peaks of northern Utah to the Park City ski slopes and from the striking Utah County canyons to the red rock terrain of Southern Utah. 
  • Official providers for Brigham Young University, Utah Valley University, Utah State University, the Salt Lake Real, the Utah Royals, and the Utah.

Everything you need to know about our fellowship program and what to expect

Our multifaceted curriculum balances longitudinal and rotational experiences to offer the latest instruction in the diagnosis and management of sports-related injuries and medical conditions, ultrasound-guided procedures, regenerative medicine, concussion management and leadership. Diverse sports medicine and orthopedic faculty provide training across a variety of domains to ensure a strong fellowship education.

Fellows at the Intermountain Utah Valley Sports Medicine Fellowship experience a supportive and adventurous learning environment like no other! Fellowship benefits include: 

  • Outstanding fellowship support. Fellows are guided by faculty who are highly invested in fellow mentorship and development. Fellows experience unique adventures together with the fellowship team each year, some of which have recently included curling, e-bikes, golf, painting, pickleball and ziplines.

The sports medicine fellowship program hosts a limited number of resident rotation experiences each year. Please apply below or reach out to the fellowship coordinator if you are interested in being considered for an audition rotation. We are not hosting medical student rotations at this time. 

  • Participants can expect to receive education and exposure to the following:
    • Evaluation and management of fractures 
    • Outpatient injury care 
    • Primary care for the athletic population 
    • Casting and splinting 
    • Local injections 
    • Reading musculoskeletal radiographs 
    • Musculoskeletal ultrasound
