New Palliative Nurse Director Stacey Wallencheck:

It's all about life

Canyons and Desert Regions –- On November 13, Stacey Wallencheck began her new role as Intermountain Medical Group – Utah’s Palliative Nurse Director and she says caring for those patients and their families facing a serious illness isn’t about death.

“Palliative care is about life. It is interdisciplinary specialized care for people living with serious illness at any age or stage,” Stacey said. “The goal is to improve the quality of life for both patients and their families. It’s about helping our consumers and communities live their healthiest lives possible.”

Stacey is a board-certified palliative care nurse with over 12 years of experience in oncology, geriatrics, advance care planning and palliative care. In her previous nursing roles, she created and promoted Intermountain’s Advance Care Planning (ACP) initiative becoming a nationally certified ACP facilitator, instructor, and organizational faculty candidate. She’s joining Intermountain leaders collaborating with local and state partners to advance palliative care work.  

“Stacey’s broad base of experience in advance care planning and palliative care will advance this important work in the Canyons Region,” Intermountain Medical Group’s executive nurse director, Michele Lower, MSN, RN said. “Her continued passion for our Mission and in assisting patients and their family members, in making important Advanced Care Planning decisions and her desire to educate caregivers on these important topics will assist in moving this important work forward.” 
This role will now be a part of the Medical Group nursing leadership team and will play a key role in the palliative care service-line team. 
Stacey, her husband, their daughter and two dogs live in Washington, Utah. She loves the outdoors, sunshine and spending time with her family. She is active in church and community service.
