Mike Cotton has been selected as the new president and CEO of SelectHealth. He’ll start the new role in mid-November, taking the reins from Pat Richards, who’s retiring at the end of this month. “Mike was selected from a strong pool of candidates following an extensive national search,” says Intermountain CEO Marc Harrison, MD. “He brings deep experience in integrated health systems and optimizing growth opportunities across a variety of market environments. He’s a strategic thinker, consumer centered, and a member advocate — a positive and collaborative leader to continue SelectHealth’s integration into our One Intermountain approach.”

Mike comes to SelectHealth from Providence Health Plan, where he’s served as CEO since 2015. Providence Health Plan is part of the Providence St. Joseph Health System, a national, not-for-profit Catholic health system based in Portland, Oregon. Mike has been a highly valued and well-respected leader at Providence, building a strong foundation for future growth. Under his direction, Providence Health Plan grew overall membership by 20 percent, expanded operations, and formed a new population health company, Ayin Health Solutions.

Before joining Providence Health Plan, Mike was vice president and chief operating officer for Humana, responsible for their Medicaid and state-based contract programs. In this role, Mike expanded long-term care and Medicaid TANF programs and achieved 4-star ratings for each market. Prior to his time with Humana, Mike held executive management positions with Evolent Health and Alere Health, where he expanded partnership relationships and developed successful Medicare Advantage and population health products and programs.  In addition, Mike has led provider sponsored health plans affiliated with University Hospitals Health System and Premier Health System, based in Ohio.

Mike graduated from Cleveland State University, earning an MBA in healthcare administration. He also holds a certificate of executive healthcare management from Case Western Reserve University and completed his undergraduate studies at Franklin University and The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.

Intermountain CEO Marc Harrison, MD, says, “Mike has shared with me that he’s excited and honored to join the Intermountain leadership team and looks forward to leading SelectHealth — one of the most successful provider-sponsored health plans in the country — at a time of great change in our industry. He says that, as part of Intermountain, SelectHealth has a compelling vision for mission-driven growth, enhancing the member experience, and doing the right thing for all we serve. Mike is proud to help deliver on this vision and Intermountain’s mission.”
