New executive leaders announced for Castell, better aligning the organization with Intermountain’s clinical networks

Intermountain leaders founded Castell in May of 2019 to accelerate the adoption of value-based care models, which promote quality outcomes for patients and help drive down the cost of care. Over the past three years, Castell has grown to include more than 450 caregivers. The organization remains dedicated to creating alignment for hospital, physician, insurer, and patient, and to expanding its network of care to help more people stay healthy and spend less on healthcare.

Intermountain is now updating Castell’s executive-level leadership to continue to position Castell for success and better align work with clinical delivery networks across Intermountain. The Castell team historically reported up to Marti Lolli, president and CEO of Intermountain’s insurance organization, SelectHealth. The team will now report up through JP Valin, MD, Intermountain’s chief clinical officer.

“Given the importance of provider alignment and engagement in value-based care models, there’s a strategic fit in more closely connecting Castell with clinical work across the enterprise,” Dr. Valin says. “I’m excited to continue to build relationships with the Castell team and to facilitate connections across the clinical continuum of care. I want to thank Marti for her leadership and for her partnership in supporting a smooth transition for the Castell team.”

Additionally, Jay Zerwekh has been named as the president and CEO of Castell, after having served in the interim role since April 4.

“From Castell’s perspective, this formal alignment reflects the reality that Castell and the Medical Group have been collaborators and partners for years,” Jay says. “Population health work began in the Medical Group with a handful of staff supporting the population health efforts. As capabilities grew, the decision was made to create Castell in 2019 to focus and refine the work that began in the Medical Group and continues today as an ongoing, vital partnership.”

These changes are effective immediately.
