About us

The adaptive care program creates equitable and productive healthcare experiences for individuals with developmental disabilities. We identify and communicate unique needs to empower healthcare providers and families to collaborate for positive healthcare outcomes.

The Adaptive Care team is comprised of child life specialists working across Children’s Health. Our team believes that all individuals have a right to access healthcare in a manner in which they are able to receive it.

Services offered

If an individual qualifies for the program, our team will ask families questions that help us write a care plan for the individual. Our team shares the plan with medical staff throughout Intermountain Health. The plan details preferences and preferred adaptations to the individual’s medical care. Additional services available:

  • Teaching the patient about the hospital through social stories, tours, and pictures before they come for a visit
  • Helping patients spend less time in crowded areas
  • Supporting individual communication needs
  • Providing play and distraction for patients
  • Accessing sensory supports
  • Providing support for medical exams and treatments
