Amayah and Amber: Strength and Resilience

Seven-year-old Amayah was paralyzed in a car accident, and Intermountain Children's Health trauma surgeon, Dr. Katie Russel, wanted to help. Dr. Russel introduced Amayah to Amberley Snyder, a championship racer who was paralyzed and featured in the Netflix Original: "Walk. Ride. Rodeo."

Our Trauma Services

Get to know how our trauma team can help

Our pediatric Life Flight team commits to the safe transport of kids by specializing in children's health and working with our critical care doctors. We make sure every kid gets the best services they need, from referral to touch down.

Critically injured children often need multiple teams and specialist to ensure the best possible care, and that’s why our trauma services include a Level 1 Trauma Center. Located at our Salt Lake City Primary Children’s Hospital, we offer:

  • Accessible and quick communication for notifying the trained trauma team and needed specialists
  • Continuously ready operating rooms
  • Always available specialists in: anesthesiology, critical care, emergency medicine, neurosurgery, orthopedics, radiology, pathology, otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat), plastics, vascular, burn, urology, cardiac surgery, social work, respiratory therapy, nutrition, and rehabilitation therapy.
  • Priority services for trauma patients, including lab results, imaging, procedures, and admission
  • Every day available nurse care managers and social workers to help address your child’s needs when it is time to go hom

Wellness PreventionWe are always evaluating our practice to ensure that we are providing the best possible care. Our program is accredited by the American College of Surgeons Trauma Quality Improvement Program (ACS TQIP®), so trauma professionals across the country share data and best practices with the goal of improving outcomes for trauma patients.
