Dr. Bentley has received specialized training in treatment of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. She has been trained by therapists from cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, strategic, object relations and developmental perspectives. The therapy approach she uses depends on the patient's overall strengths and weaknesses, problematic issues and current functioning. Dr. Bentley works primarily with adults in individual therapy and prefers those who are motivated for therapy and some cognitive insight. Dr. Bentley also frequently performs psychological evaluations to assist with preauthorization for medical procedures such as bariatric surgery, assessing cognitive and memory functioning, and evaluating for ADHD.
A native of Utah, Dr. Bentley received a dual Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Utah in psychology and biology, followed by a Master of Science degree from Texas Christian University and her doctorate degree from the University of Kansas. While completing her doctorate degree she worked at Osawatomie State Hospital with chronic patient populations. She completed her internship at the Salt Lake City Veterans Hospital with an emphasis in medical psychology, rehabilitation medicine, substance abuse, and psychiatric disorders. She worked with children through an externship at the Children's Center and a residency at the Family Support Center with an emphasis in sexual abuse assessment and treatment. Dr. Bentley has been employed with Intermountain Health Care since 1991 as staff psychologist and worked in a variety of settings including a pain clinic, older adult clinic and outpatient psychiatric clinic addressing mood disorders such as anxiety, depression and bipolar disorder; health psychology with a focus on issues such as obesity, bariatric pre-surgery psychological assessments, pain management, and adjusting to coping with other chronic physical health problems and diseases; substance abuse and dependency treatment.
