Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs)
What are patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs)?
PROMs are basic questions we ask you, our patient, to fully understand your health experience. They allow us to gather feedback on your symptoms, quality of life, and overall well-being after surgeries like total knee and hip replacements. This helps us provide the best care possible, tailored to your needs.
Why does Intermountain Health collect PROMs?
By sharing your experiences with us, you help shape the care we provide. PROMs help us track your recovery, measure the effectiveness of treatments, and make improvements to your care plan.
How do I complete a PROM?
You’ll be asked to fill out a short survey before and after your surgery. This survey can be completed online, through a text message link, or at your clinic visit. It covers questions about your pain levels, mobility, and daily activities. The information you provide will guide your care team in assessing your progress.
What does Intermountain Health do with my responses?
Your responses are confidential and help us monitor your recovery. We use this information to personalize your care and improve the services we provide to all patients undergoing joint replacement surgeries.
When will I be asked to complete a PROM?
You will receive a PROM survey at several points during your care: before surgery, immediately after, a few months into recovery, and even years after your surgery. These surveys help us track your progress and adjust your care plan as needed.
How do PROMs improve my care?
PROMs give us insight into your health that we can’t get from tests alone. By hearing from you, we can better understand how effective treatments are, allowing us to make informed decisions about your care and improve outcomes for future patients.
Who sees my PROM results?
Your care team uses the information from your PROMs to guide your treatment. Additionally, the insights we gather help improve care across Intermountain Health, ensuring we meet the highest standards of quality and patient satisfaction.
Your responses will also be used to calculate and publicly report information on how well patients at your hospital improve after a total hip or total knee replacement procedure. In the future, it will also help patients like you view and compare hospital results before getting a total hip or total knee replacement procedure
