Mohs micrographic surgery

Advanced skin cancer treatment at Intermountain Memorial Clinic Dermatology

For certain types of skin cancer, Mohs micrographic surgery offers the highest cure rates while preserving as much healthy tissue as possible. At Intermountain Memorial Clinic Dermatology, our dermatology team coordinates closely with Intermountain Mohs surgeons to ensure patients receive precise, effective, and well-supported skin cancer care.

What Mohs surgery offers:

  • Layer-by-layer removal of cancerous tissue
  • Immediate microscopic evaluation to ensure complete removal
  • Maximum tissue preservation for improved cosmetic and functional outcomes
  • Highest cure rates for many common skin cancers, including basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma

When Mohs may be recommended:

Your dermatologist may refer you for Mohs surgery if you have:

  • A skin cancer in a cosmetically or functionally sensitive area (such as the face, ears, or hands)
  • A recurrent or aggressive skin cancer
  • A lesion with indistinct borders
  • A tumor type best treated with tissue-sparing surgery

Your care experience at Memorial Clinic:

  • Our dermatologists at Memorial Clinic provide initial evaluation, biopsy, and diagnosis.
  • If Mohs surgery is appropriate, we coordinate your care with Intermountain’s Mohs specialists for timely treatment.
  • After Mohs surgery, patients return to Memorial Clinic for follow-up skin checks, ongoing monitoring, and guidance on prevention and long term skin health.

Our goal is to ensure every patient receives the most effective skin cancer treatment while maintaining comfort, confidence, and continuity of care.

Coverage for annual full‑body skin exams varies by insurance plan. Many insurers cover screenings when they’re considered medically necessary—for example, if you have a history of skin cancer, changing moles, or other risk factors. However, every plan is different. We recommend checking directly with your insurance provider or calling our clinic, and we’ll help you understand what your plan may cover.
