Complex Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) program

The Complex Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) program at Primary Children’s Hospital is one of the only multidisciplinary pediatric IBD programs in the country. We care for children, teens, and young adults with Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, and related conditions by combining medical and surgical expertise in one place.

Our clinic was founded in 2018 to meet a growing need for coordinated care. Today, we care for hundreds of young patients each year.

By streamlining visits and bringing all specialists together, we help families focus less on managing appointments and more on helping their child thrive.

At the Complex IBD Clinic, families meet with multiple specialists during a single visit. This team-based approach means fewer appointments, shared decision-making between families and providers, and personalized care plans created in real time.

For many children, remission can be achieved with medications and nutrition support. If surgery becomes necessary, our expert pediatric colorectal surgeons provide safe, specialized treatment.

“They help me manage medical care, surgical interventions, dietary concerns, and social work if needed… I feel like the team not only cares about me as a patient, but as a person.”
