Facial Rehabilitation is a unique arm of healthcare designed to treat facial dysfunction. People with the following conditions may benefit:
- A vestibular (inner ear) or other balance problem
- Traumatic brain injury
- Cerebral Vascular Accident (stroke)
- Chronic facial paralysis (loss of muscle function)
What to expect
Patients complete a comprehensive evaluation and are trained one-on-one with an experienced physical therapist that has specialized training in facial therapy. After the evaluation, the patient practices certain daily exercises as part of a home program. They return to the Center on a periodic basis to update the program as progress is made.
Since much of the therapy is carried out at home, you'll become your own best therapist and will be in direct control of your progress. Motivation and commitment to follow the home program is essential.
Although the frequency of visits to the clinic varies, facial rehabilitation can extend for one to two years.
