St. Mary's Family Medicine Residency

The St. Mary’s Regional Hospital Family Medicine Residency offers a fully accredited three-year family medicine residency program designed to prepare residents for success in any practice setting.

About our program

Our residency program was founded in 1979 with a primary goal of preparing family physicians for rural practice. Now, we offer the broad spectrum of training that allows residents to work in rural settings, including critical access hospitals, but also supports a wide variety of career goals including fellowships, ambulist, hospitalist, and emergency room physician practices.

In our clinic we provide comprehensive, integrated, wrap-around care for underserved patients. Integrated behavioral health is a unique strength of this program and not only serves the patients but teaches residents skills to utilize in their own visits. Behavioral health providers are available in the clinic to consult on patients, help with behavioral health crises, and help teach skills in counseling and motivational interviewing.

A message from our program director

Hello! I’m excited for the opportunity to share about the St. Mary’s Family Medicine Residency and why I love working here!

The medicine you will learn here is top notch but my favorite thing about being part of this program is our approach, which I have termed “casual excellence.” We are a fun-loving group that doesn’t hold too tightly to hierarchy but provides, teaches, and expects excellence in clinical medicine.

Our faculty and residency administrative staff are passionate about helping you achieve your goals in residency.  Our clinic staff are the best!  They are passionate about providing excellent care to our underserved patients and helping resident doctors find their groove in clinic.

If this sounds like your kind of learning, we hope you apply to work with us!
