How can we help?
The fetus continues to practice breathing movements, drawing amniotic fluid into and out of the lungs. In some ultrasound scans, it looks as if the baby is blowing bubbles. This movement strengthens the baby's chest muscles and prepares her for her first breaths outside your body.
Vaginal discharge is normal during pregnancy. In fact, leukorrhea — a thin, white milky discharge — is often one of the first signs of pregnancy. You can expect to have leukorrhea throughout your pregnancy. It may even increase as your pregnancy goes on. It's thought that this acidic discharge may protect against bacteria or yeast infections.
If you're bothered by leukorrhea, use panty liners. Don't use tampons, as they can introduce germs into the vagina. Don't douche, either.
Talk to your healthcare provider if you notice a change in this normal pregnancy discharge — or if it becomes green or yellow, smells bad, or causes itching. Don't try to diagnose or treat it yourself.
