Find a doctor search information

Learn more about our find a doctor search methodology

Scope and limitations of the search

Our Find a Doctor Search (FAD) is offered to all Intermountain Health website visitors to assist in helping consumers and patients identify providers (physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners, physical and occupational therapists, registered dietitians and other medical professionals) that match their unique search criteria.

The search includes both providers who are employed by Intermountain Health as well as community healthcare providers who hold hospital privileges at an Intermountain Health care site and are credentialed by the hospital. Other non-credentialed physicians in regions surrounding the hospitals are not covered by the Find a Doctor tool on our website.

Who may participate

Online scheduling is available with select Intermountain Health physician-employees of Intermountain Health only and even then, only with respect to those physicians who accept online scheduling and use electronic medical records systems.

A listing in the Intermountain Health Find a Doctor tool is offered free-of-charge to all credentialed providers at Intermountain Health care sites who are on active status and elect to be listed online.

Providers who do not maintain active status on the medical staff or have a lapse in their licensure will not be eligible to be listed online.

How the search works

When a site visitor performs a search Search by provider name, location, clinic, condition or symptom: a typeahead list appears below the search box matching the search term with information contained in the FAD search tool. Site visitors may also include their city, state or zip code and enter a mile range to view providers in close proximity to them.

Intermountain Health employed providers are returned first in searches where we employ providers who are practicing in the matched specialty.

Who maintains provider data and provides the search

The Intermountain Health Marketing and Communications Digital department offers this service as part of our website. The Credentials Verification Office (CVO) and each hospital's Medical Staff Office partner to ensure that the data on providers has been primary source verified.

NOTE: The "find a doctor" capabilities of our website are designed to increase and enhance patient choice by identifying physicians in a relevant geography or specialty who are affiliated with Intermountain Health, but not to recommend or direct a patient to any particular employed or non-employed physician.
