As Intermountain Health’s Chief Strategy Officer, Dan Liljenquist is responsible for helping Intermountain’s Enterprise Leadership Team in setting and achieving the organization’s strategic priorities. He oversees Intermountain’s Strategy, Corporate Development, Government Relations, Consumer Experience, Strategic Partnerships and Integration, and Digital Technology Services teams.
He is the chief architect and current board chair of Civica Rx, a nonprofit company with a mission to ensure that essential, generic medications are available and affordable for everyone. Civica currently supplies nearly 80 generic medications to more than 1,500 member hospitals throughout the United States. Dan also chairs the board for CivicaScript, a public benefit company that aims to lower the price of select high-cost, generic medications at pharmacies.
Dan’s philosophy on generic drug availability and affordability was featured in “Addressing Generic-Drug Market Failures – The Case for Establishing a Nonprofit Manufacturer” in The New England Journal of Medicine. He was the lead author of the May 2018 article.
Modern Healthcare has recognized Dan as one of the “100 Most Influential People in Healthcare” and as one of the “Top 25 Innovators in Healthcare.” Additionally, he was featured in “The Collaborative: 45 healthcare leaders who exemplify collaboration created in service to the patient.”
In addition to his board leadership roles with Civica Rx and Civica Script, Dan chairs the board of Graphite Health. The member-led, non-profit company is dedicated to making healthcare data interoperability easy and affordable, and facilitating the rapid adoption of digital health solutions. He also serves on boards for multiple nonprofit organizations.
Prior to joining Intermountain Health, Dan served in the Utah State Senate and was nationally recognized for his work on Medicaid and public-sector pension reforms. His career also includes senior and executive leadership roles in Strategy, and Operations. He launched his career as a consultant at Bain & Company.
Dan earned a Juris Doctorate from The University of Chicago Law School and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Brigham Young University. He resides in Bountiful, Utah with his family.
