Unfortunately, once you’ve had a kidney stone, your risk of having a second one is 30 percent within 5 years and 50 percent within 10 years. If you’ve had gastric bypass surgery, chronic diarrhea, inflammatory bowel disease, or metabolic syndrome, your risk may be even higher.
