Phlebotomy Training Program

Looking to get into healthcare? Want to get paid while you learn? Here’s a great training opportunity. Courses are offered several times per year.                                

Intermountain Healthcare is offering exceptional people, who want to make a difference, a training course to become a Phlebotomist. Phlebotomists are trained professionals who collect laboratory specimens through blood collection techniques. They provide a caring, comfortable, and confidential environment for their patients while also providing additional support to the laboratory.

What is included

  • Cost of tuition and training materials
  • Four weeks of comprehensive training in both classroom and hospital settings
  • Training wage of $17.34 per hour
  • Hourly rate increases to a Phlebotomist I, when training is complete
  • Assistance with job placement after course completion

Minimum requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to speak, read and write in English
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
  • Toggling between multiple websites and applications.
  • Excellent customer service

Course hours and location

During the course, students will be full-time Intermountain Healthcare employees, working 40 hours per week. The hours for the class and clinical rotations range from 3:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. depending on the clinical site.

During the first two weeks, students are primarily in the classroom settings. The remaining two weeks, students will complete a clinical externship at Intermountain sites. Students must provide their own transportation.

Classes are held at the Employee Services Center: 5245 S. College Drive, Murray, UT 84123

After hours completion

Students will interview for open Phlebotomy positions within Intermountain Laboratory services during placement interviews held at the end of the course.

Those students who have not secured a position upon completion of the course will be placed in the Float Pool and will be budgeted and scheduled for at least 24 hours per week to include weekends.

After completion of the course, per the agreement, a work commitment of one-year full time or part time is required.  If the student does not fulfill the contract requirements, the student reimburses Intermountain Healthcare $1,500 to cover the cost of tuition and training materials.
