Our three-year program at the Porter Family Medicine Clinic in Ogden, Utah focuses on community service and training residents in a broad range of outpatient procedures, surgical obstetrics, and primary care leadership.

About our program

McKay Dee Family Medicine residency trains residents in the full spectrum of primary care, from infants to geriatrics.

  • Residents provide comprehensive care, leading a care team to promote healthy choices, access resources for the disadvantaged, and prepare patients for life’s milestones.
  • Residents care for patients throughout the hospital, including newborns, pediatrics, labor and delivery, adult medicine, and ICU. They work closely with Family Medicine physicians and specialists without competition from other residency programs.
  • McKay Dee's broad education prepares graduates for any area of Family Medicine, with specialized training in ultrasound, sports medicine, wilderness medicine, pregnancy (including C-sections), and quality improvement.
  • Residents work outside the hospital in varied settings such as our Midtown Community Health Center, Snowbasin Ski Clinic, Weber State University, and our local free clinic.

Porter Clinic has been serving the people of Ogden since 1910, providing comprehensive care as a medical home. The clinic offers a wide range of services, including medical, nursing, laboratory, ultrasound, social work, pharmacy, and behavioral health support. Physicians utilize state-of-the-art technology to perform procedures, backed by access to world-class specialty support. Everything you need to know about our residency program and what to expect

The curriculum offered through the McKay Dee Family Medicine Residency was designed to train graduates to work in any clinical environment in which they may find themselves, capitalizing on the resources of award-winning McKay Dee Hospital.

Full curriculum details

McKay-Dee Family Medicine Residency participates in the National Residency Matching Program for first-year Family Medicine Residency positions.

Criteria

  • Applications are only accepted through Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
  • USMLE Step 1 is required by all applicants with a pass on the first attempt.
  • Step 2, including CS, must be passed prior to the rank deadline with NRMP.
  • Three letters of recommendation must be provided with at least one from a family medicine physician.
  • Graduation must be no longer than two years ago from a LCME/AOA accredited medical school.

Additional requirements for International Graduates

  • Valid ECFMG and Clinical Skills Assessment Certification
  • Be eligible to obtain a Utah medical license at the start of second year of training
  • Written evaluations demonstrating the successful completion of at least 8 weeks of a sub-internship in an ACGME accredited university setting in the United States (must be received by mail):
    • at least 4 weeks must be in a Family Medicine Sub-internship
    • at least 4 weeks in either a General Internal Medicine or General Pediatrics Sub-internship
    • Note: We do not sponsor VISAS

Our graduates have built on their clinical training and personal development during residency to establish successful practices nationwide, with many choosing to continue their careers within the Intermountain Health system.

Many of our graduates have gone on to fellowships in Sports Medicine, Palliative Care, Obstetrics, Advanced Sports and Orthopedics, or to serve as faculty members of Family Medicine Residency Programs, training the next generation.

The residents, faculty, and staff of McKay-Dee Family Medicine Residency in Ogden, Utah, encourage interested fourth-year medical students to come and spend a month with us for a Family Medicine Sub-I rotation. This is a great opportunity to learn what it is like to be a family medicine resident in our program.

Rotation Overview

On this rotation, students spend time both on the inpatient service, as well as in various outpatient clinic settings, including the residency family medicine clinic, our prenatal clinic (CHC), and our sports medicine clinic. Students also experience time on night float and OB call.
