Located on the campus of Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo, Utah, the residency program is based at the Merrill Gappmayer Family Medicine Center.

Physicians at the center are first- through third-year resident doctors who are supervised by a faculty of board certified family medicine physicians and specialists who emphasize ambulatory care, preventive medicine, and wellness.

  • Full-spectrum medicine in outpatient settings
  • Patient care teams
  • Integrated health system
  • State-of-the-art technologies
  • Electronic medical record system

We emphasize ambulatory care and give our residents comprehensive training to prepare them for any practice style.

The Partnership Model of Residency

Our residency was founded on a partnership model, where residents are involved and trained in every aspect of their career as a family medicine physician. This is not limited to simply writing orders, admitting patients to the hospital, and seeing patients at the Family Medicine Center. It also includes preparation for their future responsibilities as a leader and partner in their clinical practice.

Residents as Partners

Residents participate as junior partners alongside faculty who act as senior partners. This means sharing in clinical responsibilities and business decisions, as well as providing input on decisions regarding changes in our program. We value residents’ feedback and fresh perspective during their residency and encourage them to participate in adapting and improving our clinic and curriculum to meet their needs. Junior and senior partners may discuss and vote on shared decisions, enabling everyone to contribute to the growth of the program and practice their interprofessional skills.
