Our 12-month program includes clinical time under the supervision of preceptors, rotations through a variety of specialties, didactic lectures, engagement in a QI project, and attendance at valuable bootcamps and conferences. Fellows will also float through multiple Urgent Care clinics while developing skills in problem-focused point of care of acute and acute-on-chronic medical problems.

The Fellowship is one-year in length, with two years working as a full provider after graduation, for a total commitment of three years in Southern Nevada. A new fellow begins each July.

Fellowship Goals

• Fellows will develop skills in problem-focused point-of-care of acute, and acute-on-chronic, medical problems.
• Fellows will gradually increase patient volume and be able to provide care for increasing complexity of patients as the program progresses.
• Fellows will demonstrate increasing awareness of patient perception of care and increased satisfaction.
• Fellows will learn about clinical operations, clinical competency, and patient/provider retention.
• Fellows will attend/participate in didactic lectures and journal clubs to improve knowledge base.
• Fellows will see and understand patient diseases and conditions across multiple specialties throughout their training, providing well-rounded knowledge.
• Fellows will participate in a research project with a QI focus for the purpose of improvement in the organization/clinic, and to increase evidence-based practice knowledge.
• Fellows will attend a one-week UC/ER bootcamp early in the program.

The Urgent Care Fellowship is open to:

1. Nurse Practitioners (APRN) or Physician Assistants (PA) who have met the advanced educational and clinical practice requirements to be considered a graduate of a certified APRN or PA program within the last 12 months prior to date of interview.
2. If currently employed as an Advanced Practice Provider, employment may not be longer than 9 months prior to date of interview.
3. Candidate must be board-certified as a Physician Assistant with the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, or as a Nurse Practitioner by either the American Association of Nurse Practitioners or the American Nurse Credentialing Center, or sit for your boards (and pass) at least 3 months prior to beginning the program.
4. Must hold a valid unencumbered Nevada license as either an APRN or PA, or must have submitted your application and are pending review and approval by the board. PAs are encouraged to apply to both the Board of Medical Examiners and the Board of Osteopathic Physicians.
5. Must be able to commit to a 3-year period in Southern Nevada (program is 1-year in length and graduates remain for an additional 2 years as full providers).

• Letter of good standing from an accredited NP/PA university (even if already graduated).
• Two letters of recommendation on letterhead from the following categories: 1) preceptor; 2) educator/professor; 3) supervisor/manager.
• Personal head shot or photo appropriate for a professional application.
