Bear River Valley Hospital began in 1923 when a physician opened a two-story home in Garland for patient care called The Whitlock Hospital. In 1928, The Valley Hospital, a historical landmark in Tremonton City, was opened. After 40 years of operation, the Utah State Health Department closed the hospital due to increased state code requirements. A handful of key community residents, which included physicians, contributed more than $37,000 to reopen The Valley Hospital under the management of Health Services Corporation, a subsidiary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with a stipulation that a new hospital would be built. The Valley Hospital was reopened in April 1973 and operated until 1976.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints divested the hospital system circa 1975 by giving its medical facilities to Intermountain Health Corporation, a not-for-profit group specifically created to operate the hospitals. During that same time, residents of the Bear River Valley joined together again and pooled their bonding capacity for $900,000, along with a Hill-Burton Grant of $600,000, to build a new hospital. The construction of Bear River Valley Hospital became a reality in October 1976; the $1.5 million facility served the valley residents for 32 years.

In 2005, a feasibility study of the aging Bear River Valley Hospital revealed that building an entirely new hospital was more cost effective than updating the hospital’s current heating and plumbing systems.

In 2009, Intermountain Health opened a brand new 16-bed, 44,000-squarefoot Bear River Valley Hospital and 20,000-square-foot adjoining physician clinic at 905 North 1000 West in Tremonton. The Bear River Valley Hospital Foundation led a community giving campaign through which residents of the valley contributed $1 million of the hospital’s total cost of $25 million.

The new Bear River Valley Hospital is a state-of-the-art facility with technology and services found in larger facilities and communities. It was designed to expand in size and complexity as required to meet the needs of the community over the next 50 years.

Through the generous support of individuals, groups, businesses and organizations who donate their time and/or resources, Bear River Valley Hospital can meet its goal to continuously improve the quality of health care provided in our community. Each one of our volunteers is a valued team member, touching the lives of people and helping them to heal. Volunteers at Bear Valley Regional Hospital provide service at the hospital and at many events and programs throughout our community.
