About the Fetal Center

The Grant Scott Bonham Fetal Center at Primary Children’s Hospital is here to provide you and your baby with the most up-to-date and coordinated care possible. When a fetus has been diagnosed with a high-risk condition, we bring together a multidisciplinary team of experts to address the baby’s and mother’s needs before, during, and after delivery.

The Grant Scott Bonham Fetal Center includes maternal-fetal medicine specialists for the pregnant mother, neonatologists who are specially trained to care for newborns, and pediatric specialists for all your baby’s needs before and after delivery.

We handle complex fetal cases, performing interventions like transfusions, laser treatments, and surgeries for conditions like spina bifida. Located close to the NICU, we provide continuity of care for newborns and support for parents. The Fetal Center serves a broad region, with convenient access via Salt Lake City’s airport, and offers hope to families facing challenging diagnoses.

Our origin story

Brad and Megan Bonham’s experience led them to provide a $15 million endowed gift to help establish the first highly specialized fetal care center in Utah and the Intermountain West – a vital community resource that will enable Intermountain Healthcare and Primary Children’s, with partners from University of Utah Health, to become a national leader in comprehensive fetal care, including complex fetal surgeries.

What we offer

A team-oriented approach

The Grant Scott Bonham Fetal Center team will review your case and our care coordinator will call you to welcome you and arrange your visit.

Your care coordinator will organize your appointments with pediatric specialists and will arrange any special testing that you may need. Some of the specialists that you will meet may include a genetic counselor, social worker, and sonographer.

You will also be seen by other medical specialists as necessary depending on your baby’s condition, including pediatric surgery, neurosurgery, urology, plastic surgery, and other disciplines. Some additional testing may include advanced ultrasound, fetal MRI, fetal echocardiogram, and amniocentesis. These tests will give us more accurate information about your baby and will help accurately assess the diagnosis and prognosis of your baby.

After your evaluation, your case will be reviewed by a multidisciplinary team of doctors and specialist, including your OB/MFM, who will work together to create a personalized plan of care for you and your baby.

Individualized care

We will meet with you and your family to share our recommendations. These may include guidance regarding the monitoring of your pregnancy, further testing needs or interventions, therapy during and after delivery, delivery time and location, and follow-up after birth. We will help you create a birth plan that can be shared with your caregivers so that each individual involved in your care understands your specific plans and goals.

A single point of contact

We provide you and your doctor with a single point of contact for access to your individualized plan of care. This will include your diagnostic and medical information, support and resources for you, your family and your doctor.

The best outcome possible

By providing individualized, multidisciplinary care coordination, we offer you educational resources, detailed information about your baby’s condition and treatment options so that you can make informed decisions regarding your care.
