Talmage's Story

Before Talmage was born, doctors discovered that he had a serious congenital heart defect called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS), where the left side of the heart is underdeveloped.

Just hours after he was born, Talmage was transferred to the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Primary Children’s Hospital.

“When Talmage’s health was most fragile, he was at risk for sudden cardiac death,” his mom Jenna says. “There aren’t words to describe what we were feeling as we held our beautiful son in our arms and thought about our dreams for him.”

Since then, Talmage has undergone multiple open-heart surgeries and today is an active kid who wants to be a pilot when he grows up.

There is no cure for congenital heart disease and Talmage will continue to need care and monitoring, plus additional surgeries, including a heart and potentially other organ transplants.

“But to see our son playing,” Jenna adds, “all you’d see is an energetic and joyful little boy. We love to get out and play with him. And we really appreciate that ever since a second Primary Children’s location has opened in Lehi, the care that Talmage needs is closer than ever. We feel blessed.”

Gifts like yours to the KSL Give-A-Thon directly benefit patients like Talmage. We are so grateful for your support.
