How we deliver care across borders

Intermountain operates internationally using the long‑range Bombardier Challenger 604, a medically equipped aircraft designed for comfort during extended flights. The Challenger can transport up to two patients and a limited number of accompanying family members, based on clinical needs and FAA requirements.

For medical air transport within North America—including the United States, Canada, and Mexico—we operate the Cessna CJ4 jet.

Our team manages every aspect of global air ambulance transport, including routing, permits, customs coordination, ground transportation, and bedside‑to‑bedside continuity of care. We support complex medical needs, long‑distance repatriation, and cross‑border travel with a safe, seamless, and efficient process.

Understanding our international air ambulance operations

Common questions about worldwide medical air transport

Visit our Request a quote page to call, email, or submit the online form—our team is available at any time to answer questions and guide next steps.
After an air ambulance transfer is requested, our medical air transport team begins a coordinated review process to ensure safe, timely care. Transport coordinators gather required medical records and patient information, which are reviewed by a clinical coordinator to confirm the appropriate level of care during flight. At the same time, flight operations plan routing, weather considerations, crew scheduling, aircraft readiness, and—when needed—international permits and customs arrangements. Ground ambulances are coordinated at both the sending and receiving locations to ensure true bedside to bedside air ambulance service. Throughout the process, we provide regular updates to hospitals, care teams, and family members, and once all safety and logistics requirements are met, the aircraft is launched with continuous critical care provided until arrival and medical handoff.
