Intermountain Heart Institute is a member of The UTAH (Utah Transplant Affiliated Hospitals) Cardiac Transplant Program. In April of 2016, all four hospitals in the consortium celebrated 30 years of life-saving care.

UTAH Cardiac medical staff, transplant patients and their families joined together to mark this historic milestone and honor a program that is often cited as a model for other heart transplant programs throughout the nation.

UTAH Cardiac is a unique cooperative effort between four Salt Lake City-area hospitals – Intermountain Medical Center Heart Institute, Primary Children's Hospital, University of Utah Hospital and The George E. Wahlen Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Since performing its first heart transplant in 1985, the UTAH Cardiac consortium has performed a total of 1,312 transplants and given thousands of patients a new lease on life. The program has one-year, five-year and 10-year survival rates that exceed national averages and have published studies in more than 250 publications and generated more than $12 million in research funds.
