Susan "Sue" Robel currently holds the position of Canyons Region President for the Canyons Region of Intermountain Health, covering both Idaho and Utah. She guides the region's strategic direction, encompassing growth, business development, clinical operations, caregiver engagement, and fostering a positive culture. Sue leads a team of more than 30,000 caregivers, ensuring they deliver top-quality patient care across 21 hospitals and 130 clinics in the Canyons Region.
Before her current role, Sue served as the Chief Nursing Executive at Intermountain Health. In this capacity, she focused on aligning nursing staff with evidence-based patient care practices and overseeing Intermountain’s clinical operations. Before joining Intermountain Health in 2019, she was Geisinger's Executive Vice President, Chief Nursing and Patient Experience Officer. Her achievements there included standardizing nursing practices and founding the Geisinger Nursing Institute. Her extensive experience in clinical leadership roles has made her a prominent advocate for clinicians, patients, and community health.
Sue is an American Hospital Association Regional Policy Board Region 8 member. Sue is additionally a member of the Board of Directors governing the Salt Lake Chamber.
Sue completed her bachelor’s degree in nursing at Penn State University and holds a master's degree in healthcare administration (MHA) from Wilkes University. She completed her doctoral studies in Business Administration at Walden University.
