Sleep medicine care that supports your long‑term health

The Downtown Clinic is often the first step in your journey toward healthier, more restful sleep. Our team works with you to understand your symptoms, identify underlying causes, and create a personalized treatment plan that supports long-term health and better sleep. We offer ongoing care, therapy management, medication support, and coordination of sleep studies when needed.

Patients typically begin care by talking with their primary care provider about a referral to sleep medicine.

What to expect: from your first visit to ongoing support

After we receive your referral

We will contact you to schedule a consultation with a sleep medicine specialist.

At your first visit

At your initial appointment, your sleep medicine provider will:

  • Review your sleep concerns, health history, and current medications
  • Discuss how sleep issues may be affecting your overall health
  • Explain recommended next steps and treatment options

Your personalized care plan may include diagnostic testing, medication management, therapy, or referral to another specialty if needed.

Ongoing sleep care and follow‑up

  • Many patients continue long‑term care with the same provider or a sleep peer‑provider over the course of years. Ongoing visits are often required by insurance to maintain medications, therapy, and sleep‑related supplies.
  • Follow‑up appointments help ensure your treatment remains effective and can be adjusted as your needs change. Visits may be completed in person or through secure video visits, depending on your care plan.

Frequently asked questions about sleep medicine

Answers to common questions about sleep disorders, sleep studies, and treatment options.

Sleep medicine focuses on diagnosing and treating conditions that affect sleep quality, sleep duration, and overall health. If ongoing sleep problems interfere with daily life, a sleep specialist can help determine the cause and recommend treatment.
Our clinic helps patients with a variety of sleep disorders, including insomnia, sleep apnea, excessive daytime sleepiness, and other conditions affecting restful sleep. Your care plan is personalized based on your symptoms and medical history.
A sleep study records information about your sleep to help diagnose certain sleep disorders. Your provider will explain whether testing is recommended and review any results with you afterward.
Consider scheduling an evaluation if you regularly have difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, snore heavily, feel excessively tired, or suspect a sleep disorder. Early treatment may improve overall health and quality of life.
Many patients benefit from non-surgical treatments such as CPAP therapy, lifestyle changes, and other personalized treatment approaches. Your specialist will recommend options based on your condition.
Hypnic jerks are sudden involuntary muscle movements that occur as a person falls asleep. They are usually harmless, but frequent or disruptive symptoms should be discussed with a sleep specialist.
Most CPAP machines are designed to be portable. Your care team can provide guidance on packing equipment, airport travel considerations, and maintaining therapy while away from home.
Many patients begin by discussing symptoms with a primary care provider who can submit a referral. Referral requirements may vary based on your insurance coverage and care needs.
