APPs, such as Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and Physician Assistants (PAs), are valuable members of the healthcare team who can see you for most of your primary care needs and consult with a physician when more advanced care is needed. APPs receive 3 additional years of training after their undergraduate education and obtain and maintain certification.
They can order bloodwork, admit a patient to a hospital, and perform certain procedures in the clinic. APPs will often provide input to physicians regarding diagnosis, treatment, and patient concerns. NPs can also prescribe medication.
Intermountain Health offers two options for same-day care. The first is a same-day visit with your Primary Care provider. Many locations will hold some time back for timely but non-emergency issues. Call your local clinic location to schedule an appointment.
The second option is to visit a walk-in clinic location. We have walk-in clinics in the Denver metro area. Walk-in clinics are an extension of your PCP and are staffed by professionals ready to diagnose and treat your illness or injury. Wellness exams or preventative services are not offered at walk-in clinics. The most common conditions and services are: Fevers, flu or cold symptoms, sprains and strains, and urinary tract infections.
Yes. If your provider does not need to perform a physical exam, telehealth can be a convenient option. A simple rule of thumb is that conditions requiring hands-on evaluation are better suited for an in-person visit.
You can schedule a telehealth appointment through the MyChart app with your primary care clinic, or you can visit Intermountain Health’s virtual care clinic, Connect Care, which offers on-demand telehealth visits.
If you need to see a specialist, your primary care provider will be happy to give you a referral to the appropriate specialist.
Many insurance plans require a referral from a primary care provider before certain treatments or surgeries and having one can often help speed up access to care.
A referral also helps ensure the specialist has the information they need and confirms that the recommended surgery or treatment is appropriate.
Intermountain Health offers a range of behavioral health services integrated directly into primary care across Colorado to support your mental and emotional well-being.
Depending on the clinic, care may include help for conditions like anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, and more. Different clinics might provide different levels of behavioral health care.
You need to be an established patient at one of our clinics to access behavioral health services with Intermountain Health. Your primary care team can then connect you to the behavioral health support available at your clinic location.
If you’re not yet a patient, simply schedule a primary care appointment to get started. Once you’re established, our team can help guide you to the right behavioral health care.
