McKay-Dee Family Medicine Residency
Utah's first Family Medicine residency. Training full-spectrum family physicians since 1971. More than 300 graduates strong.
About our program
Founded in 1971, the McKay-Dee Family Medicine Residency is proud to be the first family medicine residency program established in Utah, with a long-standing tradition of excellence in training full-spectrum family physicians. Over the past five decades, we have graduated more than 300 physicians who now practice in communities across Utah and throughout the United States.
Our three-year, unopposed program provides comprehensive training across the full spectrum of family medicine—from newborn care to geriatrics—while empowering residents to become compassionate clinicians, community leaders, and advocates for their patients. Residents gain extensive experience caring for patients in outpatient, inpatient, obstetric, pediatric, and critical care settings, working closely with faculty and specialists without competition from other residency programs.
Our curriculum is designed to prepare graduates for practice in virtually any clinical environment and includes robust training in:
- Hospital Medicine
- Surgical obstetrics, including C-sections
- Sports Medicine
- Point-of-care ultrasound
- Wilderness Medicine
- Quality Improvement and Leadership
Community and underserved care
Residents also train in unique community-based settings, including Midtown Community Health Center (FQHC), Snowbasin Ski Clinic, Weber State University Athlete Clinic, and the Seager Memorial Clinic (volunteer clinic), providing a rich and diverse learning experience.
Whether your goal is general outpatient practice, rural practice, sports medicine, hospital medicine, obstetrics, or community leadership, or underserved medicine, McKay-Dee Family Medicine Residency provides the training, mentorship, and experience to help you thrive.

Where we train
At the heart of our program is the Porter Family Medicine Clinic, the residency continuity clinic and medical home for our patients. Porter Clinic has served the Ogden community for more than a century and recently moved into a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility designed to enhance patient care, resident education, and team-based collaboration.
Residents work alongside an integrated care team with access to on-site laboratory services, behavioral health, clinical pharmacy, social work services, and specialty consultation and support.
The clinic utilizes Epic, one of the nation's leading electronic medical record platforms, providing residents with valuable experience using the same EMR system employed by many of the country's premier healthcare organizations. Residents also benefit from advanced dictation software, generative AI resources, digital translation services, and seamless access to integrated patient records across the Intermountain Health system.
Our modern clinical environment, combined with a broad and diverse patient population, creates an ideal setting for residents to develop the skills and confidence needed to practice exceptional family medicine anywhere.
