SIBS Day

Available In-person

Join us for S.I.B.S. Day - a workshop for ‘Super Important Brothers and Sisters’ ages 5-17. This workshop is designed to support siblings of those with a chronic medical condition or disability. This workshop will provide a place where siblings can understand that they are not alone, a place for self expression learning from others. Your child will be placed into age appropriate groups. These groups will be led by Certified Child Life Specialists and Expressive Therapists (Art, Music and Dance).  These sessions will provide your child an opportunity to express their feelings, connect with other siblings, engage in medical play to increase familiarization, and create a coping tool box.

Lunch will be provided. (Please feed your children breakfast before they attend)

If you have more than one child who will be attending SIBS day, please register each child separately.

Parents are invited to stay during the first hour to attend a parent hour with a Social Worker. (Please do not bring children, we want to make this a safe space for parents only)

Objectives of the parent hour include:

  • Provide a safe and supportive environment for parents of children with chronic illnesses.
  • Allow parents an opportunity to share how having a child with chronic illness has impacted their family, specifically the siblings.
  • Encourage families to connect with other families in similar situations.
  • Explore different coping strategies that have helped families cope with having a chronically ill child.
  • Opportunities for questions and discussion.

Objective of SIBS day for your child:

  • Validation of feelings or emotions with having a sibling with a chronic illness, medical condition or disability
  • Opportunity to participate in services their siblings have at the hospital.  (Child life, music, art, dance, slime etc.)
  • An opportunity to interact with other siblings who are experiencing similar situations
  • A day just about them at the hospital and fun activities
