I would never recommend this doctor

I had always had fantastic experiences with Intermountain Midwives previously, as a patient and when calling for a consult on a patient of my own. Unfortunately this experience does make me think twice about sending patients over because I would hate for them to have a similar experience.

My appointment was to start an infertility work up. I was told "you're not that old, but you probably don't want to wait till you're 35 to start trying to get pregnant." I did not once ask for medication but was told I will not be prescribed medication for [...], "even though you probably are" and "there are guidelines for a reason." I mentioned concerns about difficulty losing weight and was told "you probably won't qualify for weight loss surgery, you're not that fat." I had not mentioned weight loss surgery, I clarified that I was thinking about starting medication for [...] and was told "we don't prescribe that here," but again I never asked for medication. The medical [...] form asks about [...] which I have had and I asked to be referred to pelvic PT after gave me a handout on kegels which I told her I had been doing consistently for 6 months in addition to deep core strengthening. I was told I probably wasn't doing them correctly but that she would refer me. During my bimanual exam she was checking vaginal tone and said "that's weak, but we already knew that." I did ultimately inform her that I'm a [...] and have a certificate in [...] - she then turned and asked what I would like her to order for me. The only thing she had offered me prior to that was STI screening, but I had to ask for everything else. I understand that there are guidelines for a reason, but those guidelines state that a work up can be initiated sooner if the patient has [...] cycles and I informed her of this at the beginning of the visit. As a fellow [...], I was shocked to receive this kind of treatment - If I was not medically knowledgeable, I would have left that visit with just STI testing. This can't possibly be the standard of care, and no patient should be spoken to in that manner. Especially when they are in for such a vulnerable Issue like infertility, To be told "even though you probably are" Is completely unacceptable.
