The pediatric hospital-based dental clinic was built in 2016 and features four fully-equipped dental operatories outfitted with top-of-the-line A-dec equipment. Each operatory is complete with:
- Air/water syringes
- High and low speed suction
- Low speed hand piece and high speed fiber optic hand piece
- Nitrous oxide delivery systems
- Cabinetry for storage of instruments and materials needed for each procedure
- Computers for charting, procedure notes and digital imaging
Instrument processing and sterilization occurs in the hospital central processing unit.
Intraoral, panoramic and cephalometric imaging utilizes digital radiography and portable hand-held dental imaging units. The fully-equipped dental lab allows for onsite fabrication of dental models and appliances.
Additionally, within this area is a resident/attending dentist office with fully functional work stations that can be used for treatment planning, case review and education. The residency program also has regularly scheduled block time in the Children’s Procedure Center, located on the first floor of the hospital. This Center has two rooms that are fully equipped for dental procedures utilizing general anesthesia.
The reception area houses desks for four staff members, including receptionists, schedulers and authorization staff. The waiting room has seating for ten and a staff lounge (including offices for the program director and manager) is also included.
The patient population of the hospital-based dental clinic consists of infants, children and adolescents from the community, those with special health care needs, and patients who are medically compromised and require multidisciplinary treatment.
